SOURCES OF POWER

The four sources of power are:

  1. Informational sources of power
  2. Power based on position in an organization
  3. Relationship-based power
  4. Contextual sources of power

The exertion f the sources of power from the four media people are as follows

Informational sources of power

The desired outputs to the data obtained by assimilation of the facts and organizing the information and getting the required outcomes which is the most common source of power. This source of power seeks for expertise arguments, mastery over the information, the effectiveness of others negotiating arguments etc.

Elon Musk is considered as an Informational power where he is considered a veteran in the industry and a technology giant in innovation terms. He also has no fear of the development of the new stuff and drives his confidence along with the position of authority. He is considered an expert in his knowledge and in the source of power.

Power based on position in an organization

This can also be called as the legitimate power. This can be achieved by holding a position, office or position. This forms the basis for the existence of our social structure; the ways of acquiring the legitimate powers are – through voting, by value-based culture, by appointment from superiors and by birth as a right. The major power source can be obtained by controlling the dispense resources. The consent of the governed is needed for the proper functioning of the legitimate power.

Obama was the president of USA provides enormous power, provides proper control over many things and the power and authority to control a lot of activities and dealings around the country and the world. All countries have their leaders in order to enjoy this power and authority of position and so does Obama, which he has been using it well to his advantage as well as the advantage of the country in few scenarios like trying to get more flexible for the local Americans as well as for the immigrants.

Relationship-based power

This power source needs a friendly attitude to shape the power among different parties with an assistance of higher prospect and huge arguments. It has a great influence on the productive use over parties. This needs high-quality and mutual interdependence among the parties. “Trevor Noah” considered to be the person in media who is well known to utilize his power and thereby show to the audience news by arbitrating different incidents and comments of the political individuals by making fun of them.

Contextual sources of power

This serves as a substitute source to be pursued in case of negotiation failure. It contains hidden rules to use the power. Significant power is offered to a negotiator. The complexity of the process increases acting as agents or public media. The parties are kept under pressure by not sharing the interests of the parties. The participants in the negotiation can go for any valued resource.

In this case considering Roger Ailes, where he is currently working for the Fox News the largest networks in the media. The contributions and shows of Roger Ailes made Fox news to stand as the number one in the press (Garber, 2016).

Thus, I would like to conclude by saying that, the major potential for political impact is the thing that the majority take into consideration when they discuss the force of the media as a whole. The media industry is experiencing a huge process of combination.
