For many, Intellectual Capital (IC) has become a key resource of value creation in today’s knowledge economy (Choong, 2008; Kaufmann and Schneider, 2004; Marr and Chatzke, 2004, Mouritsen et al, 2004). In fact, Intellectual Capital (IC) is considered as the most critical resource of today’s enterprise. Since the 1990s, a wide array of studies across disciplines have included a wide range on resources, properties and attributed in the Intellectual Capital (IC) and Invisible Assets (IA) body of theory and practice. 

Within this framework, you are expected to read Skandia’s Case Study, and post a 400-word team analysis, answering the following questions:

Question 1: Explain what hidden values are systematically treated as IC and IAs at Skandia? Classify them under the classes (human, structure, customer (relation) of IC that are discussed in Choong’s article.

Question 2: Why is IC important to AFS? Refer to IC expenditures and explain in depth:

a)      How do these expenditures contribute to value creation?

b)       How they are expected to generate future monetary benefits (cash flows).

Question 3: How is IC measured and managed at Skandia AFS?

Question 4: What is the mission and function of the Director of Intellectual Capital at Skandia AFS? What led Skandia AFS to the concept of IC and the development of this position?
