While several of the stories end with the death of a key character, a few end with characters who choose death as the only perceived escape from untenable circumstances: “Bartleby, The Scrivener,” “A Wall of Fire Rising,” and “The Red Convertible.” For each of these stories, discuss the factors that lead the main character to commit suicide, the significance of the means by which he does so, and the impact that his decision has on other characters in the story.

This should be a five-paragraph essay with an introductory paragraph, three body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Be sure to support all of your ideas with specific examples and/or quotes from the stories; include at least one direct quotation from each story as supporting evidence. Use MLA-style parenthetical citations to properly document your quotations, and be sure to include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper. PLEASE USE YOUR WORDS!!
